Gear rules

These are the gear rules for renting LUAK gear:

  • Prices and maximum loan period are fixed on the yearly general meeting.
  • Only board members can lend out and receive gear. They always retain the right to refuse lending;
  • Only active members have the right to borrow gear. They can borrow gear for themselves and one extra person, no more;
  • Students have priority to borrow gear;
  • Gear cannot be transferred between members
  • The borrower is responsible for evaluating the condition of the gear at the start of the loan and reporting any issue;
  • The maximum loan period for gear is 3 weeks, except in the summer break. Then the maximum loan period is defined by the board at the moment of pick-up by marking the latest permitted date of return of the loan contract;
  • After the exceedance of the maximum loan period, the borrower will be given a fine of 5 euros every two weeks, starting from week 4. The maximum fine can be the current value of the borrowed gear.
  • With the return of the gear, the gear has to be cleaned and serviced. Ropes have to be dry. Bivouac sacs have to be dry, without mud, leaves or spiders or snails.
  • At the moment of return, the borrower has the responsibility of reporting any damage incurred to the gear during the loan period;
  • In case of loss, theft or damage of the gear, with exception of wear and tear by normal use, and damage by normal use and outside the will of the borrower (ex. falling rocks,…), the borrower is required to repay the book value of the gear on the moment of the incident or reimburse the actual costs incurred. No matter the security deposit the borrower has given, the minimum reimbursement comes to half the current market price of the relevant piece of gear or when no longer in production, a suitable replacement. In turn, LUAK is responsible for acquiring the replacement piece of gear;
