LUAK

Birds are awakening and exams are ogling. Summer is far-off, then again, we can already make minimal plans for the great summer when we get together. The place to be is Chamonix Mont-Blanc!

The region holds a lot of opportunities for alpinism, but the forests also hide diverse rock climbing crags. Moreover here you can find boulders, trailruns, hiking trails and the greenblue Lac Blanc (what's in a name).

Prepare:

• Read for multiday alpinism explorations.
• Get in shape for granite and gneiss.
• And save the date: 15th - 23th of July.

Yesterday the annual Belgian Student Boulder Championship was held! Consequently, our club sent a delegation to Ghent.

In the women's competition Liuba won gold for the KULeuven. In the men's competition Koen and Hendrik shared the 8th rank, for the honour of-respectively-the KULeuven and the UC Leuven-Limburg.

Congrats to everyone who participated in the game. Now back to rock climbing.

To conclude our rock climbing initiation sessions, we will be going to Freyr for the weekend! The weather forecast seems to be favorable, so there is no excuse not to come. Remember to bring a tent, sleeping bag and mat since we will be sleeping at the bivouac, or you can always try to claim a spot in the tent of another LUAK member.
We encourage you to come by the clubhouse this Thursday to arrange the carpooling. If this is not possible, you can always contact a member of the board.

The new Academic Year of 2016-2017 is about to start!
We have yet again planned a ton of activities for this year, so be sure to check out the Calendar!
The LUAK is already open again every Thursday at 22:00, so we hope to see you there. The first Info Evening is planned on the 29th of September. New members, mark this date!

The end of the year is approaching fast! Two more epic events are planned:

- This Friday (24/06/2016) it's our annual BBQ. You bring your own meat, we'll supply some veggies and of course make sure that the fridge is full! Along the way we'll introduce the board for next year and you can vote if they're accepted to reign for the next LUAK year ;-)

- From the 16th till the 24th of July we're going climbing abroad! If you're familiar with the LUAK, you know that the location is never 100% decided. However, taking into account the poll here on the website and since our friends from Hungaria are joining, we'll very likely test our granite skills in Ailefroide! It is just that, a meet of LUAK members in the mountains, so nothing really organized, just a week full of epic(nes)s. If you're looking for a ride, ask around on the BBQ!

Ever got stuck on a big alpine route? Had to call the heli a little too much times and want to brush up some self-rescue techniques?

On March 24th the LUAK and Club Hungaria organize a rope skill workshop. The idea is to teach some self-rescue solutions for serious situations. Everybody is welcome, but the target audience is people that are familiar with multipitch climbing. We will for example not go over rappelling but rather focus on hauling, ascending the rope etc...

Next weekend LUAK is going bouldering in Fontainebleau!
Don't forget to drop by on thursday at luak HQ where we will organise the carpooling.

The weather looks like it'll be quite ok so make sure you're well rested and in shape to donate some fingertip skin to the rocks south of Paris. :)

To all students: good luck with the exams! We'll be serving some ice cream at LUAK next thursday to get you through them. We've also added the next LUAK events to the calendar. Some extra events are still in the pipeline.

After the exams the next climbing semester starts! We'll organise carpools to climbing gyms in Brussels/Antwerp/Limburg... to make up for our loss in Leuven (RIP Hungaria!). Keep an eye out on our facebook page to be in the loop. We'll start on Frebuary 9th, meeting at Spuye at 19h30! On other days you're most likely to find us at the new bouldergym in Herent (http://www.boulder.one).

Talking about Hungaria RIP, there is a goodbye party organised (not by us) on the 15th of January. LUAK will be represent!! More info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1638495353073896/

PS: This weekend the memberships on the website will be reset. This means that all members from 2014 that haven't yet subscribed this year will no longer have access to the member section.

The X-MAS party is behind us, new bets are made and the board gathered to discuss the new year. Keep an eye out on the website to be the first to know the dates for the Fontainebleau weekend, a new climbing gym tour (giving an alternative to the closing of Hungaria), our proposal for the summer meet, etc etc...

Along with the new year there's also a change coming for the website: we'll start using the forum on the website instead of a separate forum. This means you'll only have to log in once! We'll keep the old forum in legacy mode to not lose all the spicy topics ;)

Keep in mind that for the next 2 weeks the LUAK will be closed so you'll have the time to study! We'll be back on January 7th and deliver some pancakes and ice cream on 14th of January.
